Did you know about HALF of American adults over the age of 30 have some sort of periodontal or gum disease? A lot of the foods we eat can either contribute to or prevent periodontal (gum) disease, so if you’re not aware of how nutrition has a big impact on your smile, here’s what you need to know:

Nuts contain protein, fiber, essential fats and vitamins like E, C and B. These vitamins help balance hormones, reduce inflammation and support healthy skin and smiles.

Crazy for Cranberries

Foods such as cranberries, blueberries, red cabbage, black rice or anything rich in anthocyanins can help prevent the attachment and colonization of bad bacteria in the tissue or the mouth. So cranberries can be a great way to keep away disease and keep a happy smile.

This steamy beverage is a smile superstar. Green tea contains bacteria-fighting polyphenols that help prevent tooth-attacking acids. Bonus points to those who brew their tea with fluoridated water.
